Wood & Furniture

To expand my abilities and due to ideas of friends I began to work with wood more often. Handling wood is actually very different to working with metallic materials, but I try to improve my skills in the field of woodworking. Luckily, I can rely on friends and colleagues who are very experienced and teach me a lot about this material.

COFFEE - TABLE

This table is the first of a total of three pieces of furniture I'm going to build for myself. It is made out of very old cherry wood, which was carefully milled to a thickness of about 40 mm. The shelf is made out of multiple pieces of acacia wood. The recesses for the legs was milled by hand and the legs are made out of flat steel with a thickness of 8 mm, which are welded and powder-coated in matte black color.

SERVING TRAY

This combination of a serving tray and a cutting board is made out of very old cherry wood, which was carefully milled to a thickness of about 40 mm and cut to rough size, before green dyed epoxy resin was casted into the knothole. Then, the recesses for the tableware were milled and everything was sanded to final size. To seal the wood a special cutting-board-wax was used, which is totally food-safe and additionally smells like oranges.

PALLET - WINE - RACK

A classy, yet modern way to store your favourite drinks and the glasses that go nicely with them is this wine rack, which is made out of a pallet. It can hold up to 8 bottles and 6 glasses and still leaves some space for additional decorations. Angle brackets are used to connect the pieces that are all cut out of one single palette, and  oxyfuel welding equipment was used to singe the wood after grinding the rough pallet wood to a nice and smooth surface.

SOUNDSYSTEM IN COUCH

In this old couch which is standing outside on a balcony a small sound system has been integrated. It consists of a car-radio system and two speakers, which are mounted in the left and right armrest. The radio itself is mounted on top of one armrest. You can play music using a phone (Bluetooth), an AUX-cable, CDs or just listen to your favourite radio station.

RAISED GARDEN-BED

This raised garden-bed makes all kinds of agricultural plants like salad, radish, carrots and leek as well as fruit like strawberries etc. grow way better than they would somewhere else! It is made out of a 2 mm thick stainless-steel tub and a frame out of spruce wood. The edges are connected by frames, which are also made out of stainless steel with a thickness of 2 mm.

PALLET TABLE

These coffee tables are made out of standard palettes with a glass plate on top. The brackets for the glass are made out of 2 mm stainless steel and screwed into place on the top pallet. Both palettes are securely fixed together and singed using oxyfuel welding equipment. Also, there are 4 pedestals made out of rubber at the bottom, just to make sure not to scratch the floor with it.

LONGBOARD

From the idea of a friend the project of producing own Longboards originated. Until now, 5 prototypes have been made, one of those is shown here. This one was specially designed and crafted for a Tattoo-Studio, where it is used as a decoration. It is made of 12 bonded layers of 0.8 mm beech-veneer which are swaged together and into shape by a press braking machine. The mould was made of steel and the Longboard has been in that mould for 24 hours, being exposed to a pressing force of 10 tons.
