Just because a thing has had it's day in it's original remit, it doesn't mean that it has to be gone forever. I really like the idea of reusing old or broken materials and bring them back to light in another way of use. Since this is called "Upcycling", here's what I have done to breathe new life into old materials.
This lamp is made of old copper tubes, which are usually used for plumbing and gas installations. Inside these pipes there are all the power lines for the lightbulbs. Old, broken cymbals are used as lampshades, and they produce a nice golden beam of light through the whole room. The pipes are connected by fittings, which makes soldering unnecessary.
Another lamp was built out of an old Snowboard, which was unused for years. The lamp is mounted by 4 shroud tensioners which makes it easy to adjust in height. Also all the spotlights are moveable in 2 axis to control where the light beam goes.
