METAL-DESIGN

For me as a trained sheet metal technician with a master's certificate, metal is of course the most beautiful material of them all. Since I am a "locksmith" in the third generation, loving steel, aluminium and stainless steel has been put into my cradle and handling these materials is pretty easy for me. Nevertheless I always try to combine these familiar materials with others like wood, glass or plastics. The results of my projects which mainly consist of metal can be found here.

CORPORATE SIGN

I made this corporate sign as a christmas present for the owner of this company. It is made out of 1.5 mm thick stainless steel with brushed finish, 2 mm thick "Corten-Steel", 2 mm thick stainless steel which is painted in the company's main color and some brass fasteners. If you want to check out the company, you can do this here:

METAL 6-PACK

This tray for six bottles of beer was a birthday present for a close friend. It is made out of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed finish and it has the logo of our favourite brand on it. The sheet metal was bent, welded and sanded and I filled the tray with bottles of beer before handing it to my buddy. Once again, this is just a funny present for a friend, so I hope I'm not violating any copyright laws with this project.

BBQ - PUNCHES

These BBQ-Punches are meant to be a funny little gadget for BBQ parties.  I made five of them as Christmas gifts for friend, they are made of 5mm stainless steel with brushed surface, a brushed stainless steel rod with a diameter of 8mm and a wooden file handle which i bought at a hardware store. I had some wood oil left from an old project and I used it to put a nice, elegant finish onto the handle.

I can't wait to see them in action at our next barbecue, although I might be the only one who wants to steal someone else's Steak anyway...

PIPE   CARRIER

This pipe carrier was a present for someone's retirement. It is made of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed surface, solid cherry wood and birch veneer, held together by M3 brass bolts. The challenge with this project was to match the carrier to the pipe, which was already there before I started my work.

As far as I know, the one who got this present is very happy about it and I really have to thank a friend of mine for supporting me with the wood and the woodworking knowledge.

KEY   BOX

This key box was produced according to customer requirements. It is made out of stainless steel with brushed and polished finish combined with clear and matte acrylic glass. Everything is held together by brass bolts. The model of the motorcycle was handed to me by the customer. When the box is opened there's the name of the owner displayed in the middle, but this is blurred here.

STORK

Following an old tradition in Austria, new parents are getting a stork as a gift. These storks usually are put up in front of their house, so that everybody knows they have just become parents. The more subtle version is to hand the stork directly to them - this one is made of 2 mm stainless steel with brushed finish and is about 600 mm high. The sheet metal on the backside is painted in copper to provide nicer contrast and noble optics.

BMW E36 - MURAL

This mural is made of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed finish, the car complies to the actual car of the customer and was made according to a photo which the customer provided. The BMW-emblem is an original part made by BMW, which is usually mounted on the hood.

CANDLE HOLDER

A candle holder for 18 candles, made of stainless steel with brushed finish with 2 mm material thickness. The lettering "Du bist der Pilot" ("You are the pilot") comes from a song by a german band called "Gloria" and is shaded by 0.5 mm brushed copper sheet.

RED BULL RING - MURAL

This Christmas gift for a friend who is into motorsports a lot is a mural of the Austrian "Red Bull Ring". It is a combination of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed finish, oiled wood and it is illuminated by a battery-powered LED-strip. Special highlights are the labelings of the curves by individual letters which are nailed to the wood and the Red Bull emblem which is made of rusty steel.

WALL BRACKETS

To mount controllers for consoles on a wall with minimum space requirements these almost invisible brackets were built. If there is a controller on the bracket, the bracket is not visible and it seems like the controller is floating. If the controller is in use, the delicate design of the brackets in honeycomb structure ensures a nice optic. The brackets are made of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed finish and the web thickness of the honeycomb structure is only at impressive 0.9 mm.

PLANT SIGNS

To ensure the marking of plants and herbs in your own garden is easy and durable, these plant signs were made out of 1.5 mm stainless steel with brushed finish. The rear part of the signs which includes the spire for applying it to the soil is colored in matte black for better contrast and readability. On this photo there are just some examples, altogether there are signs for about 30 varieties.

COVER FOR A BAR - FRIDGE

The person who runs this bar called "Uptown" needed a cover for the fridge they had in their bar. Due to the fact that hard liquor isn't sold very much during the daytime, they thought that cooling the drinks in an open fridge is not really efficient. The original cover of the fridge didn't fit because the bottles were too high and so this cover was made. It consists of an outer shell made out of 1.5 mm stainless steel in brushed finish and an inner shell made out of 1.5 mm stainless steel in polished finish to reflect the light coming from the battery-powered LED-strip onto the 3 mm satined acrylic glass. Everything was assembled by rivets and bolts which are also made of stainless steel. Because the original color of the bar's logo is pink, this color was used for the cover too.

WRAPPING FOR VOUCHER

A voucher for some laps on the "Red Bull Ring" in a KTM X-Bow needed a nice wrapping, so this wrapping with a picture of the car was made. It consists of three layers 1.5 mm stainless steel in brushed finish which are held together by self-made brass rivets. The backside of the voucher has been colored in KTM's orange color to ensure a nice contrast.
